At Melbourn Primary School, Design and Technology inspires creativity, curiosity, and practical problem-solving. Our curriculum enables children to design, make, and evaluate purposeful products, developing technical knowledge and resourcefulness through hands-on learning.
Across the school, pupils explore three main areas: structures and products, mechanisms and systems, and food technology. These are revisited and built upon through a progressive curriculum that promotes independence and collaboration. From windmills and moving toys to computer-aided design, children apply their learning in real-life contexts. Food technology teaches essential cooking skills, nutrition, and understanding of where food comes from.
Design and Technology at Melbourn encourages children to think critically, take risks, and reflect on their ideas, fostering confidence, creativity, and a sense of achievement in their work.
