Developing the music provision at MPS has been part of the school Strategic Development Plan for the last two years. Appointing Mrs McLeod-Jones to lead music across the school has been key to achieving our goal of improving the quality of music teaching, the children’s music experience at school and the development of their musical skills.
Last year, Mrs M-J’s priority was invigorating singing in school. Singing assembly is now a highlight of the week and the children sing tunefully rather than loudly! I love to hear the songs travelling along the corridor. This year, Mrs M-J is developing recorder teaching across the school; on Wednesdays many ‘toots’ can be heard coming from the small hall!
Yesterday, the Year 3 children followed in the successful footsteps of Year 4 last week and performed an incredible music concert to their families. They were utterly brilliant opening the show, playing their recorders to Wicked’s Defying Gravity, and sang songs from musicals such as Matilda and Mary Poppins. Some children who have individual music lessons also showcased their talents playing solo pieces. I smiled throughout at the quality of the music and the enjoyment on the children’s faces; it was a joyous afternoon – you were brilliant Year 3.
A huge thank you to Mrs M-J for her enthusiasm, commitment to our children and musical talents – we are so lucky to have you and appreciate everything you do for us; you are amazing! Thank you.
