I have shared previously my thoughts about children having access to smartphones. Part of this has been my concern about the impact of social media on children’s safety, mental health and well-being. Consequently, I am delighted that the government decided this week to ban social media for under 16s.

Whilst we are still to know exactly how this is going to be implemented, it’s a wonderful start in protecting this generation. It not only acknowledges the growing body of research into the harms of social media but also gives you, the parents, greater power to say ‘no’ to your children. My hope is that in time this will mean that under 16s will not be given smartphones with parents instead favouring ‘brick’ type phones. Please remember that pupils are not allowed phones in school.

This time next week will be the annual Summer Fayre, which is always a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and raise much-needed funds for the school. The PTFA is currently raising money for new pupil laptops. The committee members have really struggled to secure as many volunteers as they need to run the event, meaning they cannot run their usual barbeque and have had to source a food truck instead. They desperately still need volunteers for other stalls and activities. Please sign up on the link on our school app if you can help – thank you.
