Thank you for supporting your children with their World Book Day outfits yesterday, it always amazes me how many different book characters you can replicate. I also appreciated the company of some fellow Highway Rats! The school really was buzzing with excitement and the enjoyment of reading.
At MPS we are proud of our commitment to reading. Reading is the gateway through which all other academic learning takes place and as such we prioritise time and resources to ensure that the children develop their reading skills and fluency. As part of this we promote books throughout the year, not just on World Book Day, but it is certainly fun to spend the day celebrating the joy of favourite stories.
I hope that you can spare some time this weekend to snuggle up with your children and enjoy favourite books together. It is important to keep reading to children even when they can read independently – they benefit from hearing your expression and fluency and shared story times are just so precious.
