I hope you have had a good week; how wonderful that the sun has shone today! Along with other members of SLT we are enjoying gate duty in the warmer weather, although it is of course always lovely to chat to you whatever the weather.

I have been actively liaising with the Parish Council for some time to ensure that the area around the school is as safe as it can be. You may have noticed the recently re-painted lines at the Orchard Road/New Road intersection. We have also discussed additional safety measures along Orchard Road such as pavement railings outside of the Orchard Road gate.

Due to ongoing concerns about dangerous and thoughtless parking, for example on the yellow zig-zags immediately outside school and obstructing drives, gateways and corners, I have requested a police presence at drop off and collection times. I was pleased to see the police in attendance this week and hope that this will become a regular occurrence.

I know that walking to school can be an important social time, but please can I ask you to not stop in the school gate areas to chat as this can make it hard for other parents to enter and exit school and can mean that young children become separated from their parents.

We are seeing a growing number of children cycling and scooting to school which is great but please make sure that you give these children space if they are on the roads – the highway code makes it clear that pedestrians first then cyclists second have priority before drivers and that cyclists should be given a 1.5 metre clearance.  Please also remember to ensure your children wear helmets and dismount before entering the school site.

Have a lovely weekend; I hope to see many of you at the fun-run!
