We marked the 80th anniversary of VE day in school yesterday with a special assembly. Year 6 shared some of their learning about the war which they had crafted into impressive reports and Churchill style speeches.

We reflected on the impact of WW2 and looked at photos of the celebrations held on VE day 1945. There were audible gasps of awe from the children when I showed them two extra special photos – those of the VE day celebrations actually held at Melbourn Primary!

I was incredibly proud of the children across the school as we observed the two minutes national silence at 12 o’clock. We had children in lessons, out at play and even in the dining hall but everyone showed their respect as they stopped and waited, even the youngest children who were in the middle of eating their lunch! The special VE day cakes were obviously enjoyed too!
