A few tears have been shed this week! On Wednesday the children put on a special ‘thank you’ assembly for Mrs Whitton with a parody of the ‘Hungry Caterpillar’. We were entertained with poems and songs about all of Mrs Whitton’s jobs, teaching French & Spanish, ordering all of the pens and pencils, planting up the planters at the front of school and even clearing up the glitter at Christmas to name a few! Ask the children about the glitter cannons – if you haven’t heard already!
We presented Mrs Whitton with a beautiful jug depicting all the class names using the children’s finger prints and a beautiful hand-drawn picture of the school. Then after school, staff past and present came together for afternoon tea to celebrate Mrs Whitton’s 26 years of dedication to the school.
As I said in my poem to Mrs Whitton:
‘‘Some people become so woven into the fabric of a place,
That imagining life without them feels impossible to face ….
So, thank you for twenty-six wonderful years, of care, devotion and dedication too.
For every child, every family, every colleague and all that you helped us do.”
On Thursday, we had our Year 6 leavers assembly. To see the children perform so confidently for their parents for the very last time is always such a proud and poignant moment. Having watched them ‘change and grow’ from aged 4 to 11 and now be ready, socially and academically, for secondary school is such a privilege. We are so proud of our year 6 cohort and all they have achieved. We wish them every success for secondary school and beyond. Saying good-bye to parents who have been part of the school for many years and now their youngest is leaving is never easy – we will miss you too, thank you for your continued support.
Today, we had our final assembly of the 2025-2026. We discussed how the England football team might be feeling as they finish the World Cup tournament, leave the England team and go back to their club teams and how in a similar way we are leaving our current class team to join a new one in September. We reflected on the achievements we are proud of, the things we are thankful for and what we are looking forward to. There is so much to be proud and thankful for. Please ask your children about what they think are their achievements this year and what they are thankful for.
As I write goodbye at the end of another successful year at MPS, I would like to thank all of the staff for their hard-work and commitment to your children and to you all for your continued support. As I say when you join the school: we do this together. But now it’s time for some rest before the excitement of the 2026-2027 academic year. For me it’s time to read, see friends, spend time with my family and take a holiday. I hope whatever you are doing that you have the most wonderful time with your children – they are wonderful and the reason I come to work every day!
See you on Thursday 3rd September with all those new shiny shoes!
